What is Psoriasis?
Psoriasis is a non-contagious skin disorder, the result of abnormally accelerated skin
cell reproduction. A psoriatic skin cell moves to the top of the epidermis in three days.
Normal skin cells mature and move to the top in 28-30 days. The excessive build-up of
shedding psoriatic cells form red scaly patches that surface on the body. These areas are
composed of hundreds of dead cells that are being shed off. The redness is caused by the
increased blood supply required to feed this area of dividing and multiplying skin cells.
Psoriasis can also appear on the scalp, where it can be worsed by the build up of sebum on
the scalp.
